Sheep pregnancy scanning benchmarks tool

Use the Sheep pregnancy benchmarks tool to view the latest reproductive rate of Western Australian (WA) sheep flocks and compare with the reproductive rate of your flock.

How to use the tool

Choose to see the whole data set or refine the results to show data from a particular year, lambing months, region, or by ewe breed.

  • In the Years tab, click the menu to select All years or a particular year.
  • In the Lambing months tab, select All months or a specific month.
  • In the Region tab, click on CSZ if your property is in the cereal sheep zone or MRZ if it’s in the medium rainfall zone. Zone definitions are found in the Lifetime Wool Guidelines webpage.
  • In the Ewe breed tab, select Merino, for merino-to-merino matings, or Meat for all non-merino matings. Where possible all ewe lamb (young female sheep) matings and ET (embryo transfer) and AI (artificial insemination matings have been removed from the dataset.

The reproductive rate is calculated by the number of foetuses scanned (twins and singles) per 100 ewes joined, expressed as a percentage.

To compare your results, add the number of your lambs scanned in utero per 100 ewes joined in the ‘Lambs scanned per 100 ewes joined’ box.
