We need your help to detect and deter illegal fishing activity in Western Australia (WA). We recognise the important role that the community plays in supporting the sustainable management of our aquatic resources by reporting suspicious activities to DPIRD to investigate. This includes fishing industry concerns including suspicious wholesale and retail seafood trade and restaurant activities.
Illegal fishing may include:
- someone netting in the river
- exceeding bag or possession limits
- taking undersize fish
- fishing in a closed area
- having more fishing gear in the water than they should
- selling or attempting to sell recreationally caught fish.
What information should I include in my report?
- What type of equipment you saw being used. Note the make and model of cars and/or boats, registration numbers, and descriptions.
- What they were doing.
- How many people you saw.
- Who they were. Did you hear or know any of their names?
- When it happened, including the time and date.
- Where it happened. Note the nearest known landmark or intersection of the closest road to help pinpoint the location of the activity.
To make an immediate report out of hours, please contact the 24 hour FishWatch hotline on 1800 815 507. Email and online reports are not monitored outside normal business hours or during the weekends.
