Quarantine WA border checkpoints

The department's Quarantine WA service operates border checkpoints as a first line of defence against incursions of unwanted pests, weeds and diseases, which could arrive on freight, cargo and other items brought in from interstate.

Importing a bird or animal by air  

Inspections are carried out in the quarantine area of air cargo buildings during business hours. Most animals transferring to regional airports will be inspected at Perth Domestic Airport prior to transhipping. The animal will be held in quarantine until cleared by an inspector.

You must arrange transport of your animals so they can be inspected during business hours, even if you are arriving at a different time. You are responsible for your animals' welfare while they await inspection. Animals arriving outside of business hours will be held in appropriate facilities until inspected.      

Hours for inspection: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Excludes public holidays. No inspections are available outside of these times.

Bookings must be made with the QWA Scheduler during business hours - 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

A minimum of 24 hours prior notification of livestock arrivals into WA is to be given.
