Gnangara Horticulture Water Use Efficiency voucher

The Gnangara Horticulture Water Use Efficiency Voucher Program assists eligible commercial horticultural businesses obtain written expert advice to develop a plan to implement water use efficiency measures on their property.  

The purpose of the Gnangara Horticulture Water Use Efficiency Voucher Program is to assist eligible commercial horticultural businesses to obtain written expert advice to develop a plan to implement water use efficiency measures on their property. Assistance will be provided via a voucher that can be used to engage a professional irrigation consultant.

Closing date: Monday 30 June 2025, or until funds are fully committed  

What do you get?

Vouchers of up to $5,000.

Approximately $1,190,000 is available under the program.

Who is this for?

  • Commercial producers with a water licence.
  • Commercial producers with a right to take and use water for an established horticultural business that is being conducted on land in any of the eligibility areas shown in the map.
  • Those who have been identified for a 10% groundwater abstraction reduction from 2028 under the Gnangara Groundwater Allocation Plan

Overview

Local growers in the defined area can access vouchers to engage certified irrigation specialists to:

  • audit their properties
  • design efficient irrigation systems
  • provide written advice on technologies, soil amendments and cropping strategies to improve water use efficiency within their enterprise
  • develop soil amelioration plans and options to improve soil health.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you need to demonstrate you meet all of the following criteria:

  • own, share farm or lease property that you use for horticultural production in the eligible area and identified for a 10% groundwater abstraction reduction from 2028 under the Gnangara Groundwater Allocation Plan 
  • conduct the majority of your primary production business in Western Australia
  • operate as a sole trader, partnership, trust or private company
  • hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) and are registered for GST
  • be a commercial primary production business (as defined in the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997).
