Native Seed and Nursery Development Program Grants

The Native Seed and Nursery Development Grant program aimed to assist emerging and established Aboriginal businesses establish efficient, sustainable, and good governance practices to become more competitive and increase business income in Western Australia’s native seed and nursery industries.

This grant was delivered through Stream 1 of the Aboriginal Governance and Leadership Development Program (AGLDP) called Building Better Aboriginal Business (BBAB). More information is available on the Aboriginal Economic Development page.

What was available?

From $5,000 to a maximum of $50,000 for each applicant.

Who was this for?

Emerging or established Aboriginal Corporations, businesses, or enterprises, interested or engaged in the supply of native seeds and seedlings across the agricultural region.

Overview

With the growing trends in climate change action, land restoration and regenerative agriculture, there is timely opportunity to increase Aboriginal participation in the growing demand for supply of native seeds and seedlings across the agricultural region.

The objective of this grant program was to increase and grow Aboriginal economic participation in the supply of native seeds and seedlings to meet this growing demand.

The native seed and nursery grants were part of DPIRD’s Building Better Aboriginal Businesses grant program, which supports Aboriginal people to grow and build better businesses and opportunities.   

Successful recipients

In 2023, grants were awarded to 8 Aboriginal businesses located in the Great Southern region, Northam, Mandurah and Katanning. Successful recipients included emerging businesses, established native seed and nursery businesses, and businesses wanting to diversify into other industries.
