Western Australia (WA) experiences a wide range of emergency threats including fire, cyclones, floods and heatwaves, many of which may endanger the welfare of livestock, horses, companion animals and wildlife.

The Animal Welfare Act 2002 (the Animal Welfare Act) and its accompanying regulations provide the legal framework for the care and protection of animals in Western Australia (WA).

The first step to improving animal welfare in Western Australia is making sure animal welfare concerns are reported.

A person in charge or control of an animal is responsible for meeting the health, safety and welfare of the animal.
