About the app
UCI BlacklegCM factors in grain price, input costs, yield benefits, seasonal conditions, crop circumstance and conditions, state, fungicide strategies and other diseases to give you the best case, worst case and most likely estimates of financial return from different management strategies.
UCI BlacklegCM helps you to management upper canopy infections of blackleg disease in canola crops in Australia.
UCI BlacklegCM can be tuned to account for some of the major factors that relate to risk of yield loss due to UCI Blackleg disease in your paddocks.
The app draws on field trials and observations, as well as experimental data and expert knowledge from contributors throughout Australia to forecast the likely results and economic return of spraying for this disease.
UCI Blackleg CM considers costs, yield benefits, grain price, and seasonal conditions to give you the best case, worst case, and most likely estimates of financial return from fungicide control.
The app is used from first flowering onwards to determine if a fungicide spray applied during early flowering (10-30% bloom stage) will reduce the incidence and severity of blackleg upper canopy infections in early sown canola crops.
UCI BlacklegCM was designed to complement the BlacklegCM management app, which aids in disease management decisions for blackleg crown canker infections during the sowing and early vegetative stage of the canola crop.
Note: Research into blackleg upper canopy infection (UCI) is ongoing. The app will be updated as new information becomes available.
UCI BlacklegCM does not account for all factors that can affect blackleg upper canopy infection (UCI), so information provided by this tool is not tailored to the circumstances of any individual farm.
Blackleg in canola-crown cranker versus upper canopy infections
In this video, Steve Marcroft (Marcroft Grains Pathology) explains the differences between Blackleg crown canker and Upper canopy Infection and management practices for both. Adam Sparks (DPIRD) demonstrates the BlacklegCM decision support tool.
