PIP’s aim is to unlock agricultural opportunities and challenges facing the northern beef industry.

PIP is a collaborative effort between the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), Meat and Livestock Australia and Rio Tinto.

DPIRD is responsible for delivering the PIP projects and initiatives, and DPIRD's in-kind contribution is approximately $1.7 million which includes:

  • staff overheads
  • providing access to:
    • animal research and animal ethics committees for review and approval of project proposals involving livestock
    • specialist research design and methodology, and data analysis expertise
    • DPIRD workplace office facilities when project staff are not onsite.
