The Federal Government has confirmed that the phase-out will not take place during this current term of the Australian Parliament. The phase-out does not apply to other livestock export industries, such as live cattle exports, nor does it apply to live sheep exports by air.
Following the announcement of the phase-out, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) conducted research on the likely impacts of the decision on Western Australia on behalf of the State Government.
