A broad initiative
The WA Agricultural Research Collaboration (WAARC) brings a ‘Team Western Australia’ approach to research and development with a long-term vision to build research quality, capacity, careers and collaborations.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is one of six member organisations involved in WAARC along with CSIRO, Grower Group Alliance, Curtin University, Murdoch University, and The University of Western Australia.
WAARC members are working together to develop applied research programs focused on emerging industry issues. The Collaboration is applying cutting-edge science to Western Australia’s unique challenges and opportunities, future-proofing the agriculture and food sector and delivering sustained growth and profitability.
DPIRD’s involvement
DPIRD scientists and researchers are working with Collaboration members and industry to build applied research programs focused on emerging issues across 6 key themes:
- Northern Agriculture
- Grains Transformation
- Climate Resilience
- Agricultural Technologies
- Aboriginal Science Engagement
- Capacity Building and Extension.
There is active industry engagement in the co-design of WAARC programs to ensure research is relevant and to drive development, extension and adoption.
WAARC was launched in July 2022 and is supported by a $25 million state government investment over 3 years, and a $10 million commitment from the Grains Research and Development Corporation.
