Other biosecurity legislation

In addition to the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 (BAM Act), other legislation relevant to biosecurity includes the Agriculture and Related Resources Protection Act 1976 and the Exotic Diseases of Animals Act 1993.This legislation helps strengthen our defences against potentially devastating pests and diseases.

Agriculture and Related Resources Protection Act 1976

This Act includes provisions for the management, control and prevention of certain plants and animals for the protection of agriculture and related resources. The provisions in this Act have been largely replaced by the BAM Act.

It remains in limited operation until all the provisions under remaining regulations have been transitioned to other legislation.

Exotic Diseases of Animals Act 1993

This Act includes provisions specific to the detection, containment, and eradication of certain diseases affecting livestock and other animals.

This legislation allows the taking of very specific steps for the control of an emergency animal disease.

Historical biosecurity legislation

The BAM Act and Regulations replaced, either in whole or in part, 17 older Acts and associated regulations.
