MyPestGuide® was developed to encourage everyone (community, industry, and government) to report observations of any common, interesting, or possibly exotic pests, as well as the absence of pests across Australia.
The MyPestGuide® suite of apps includes a Reporter app, three pest identification field guides, a decision tool, and an online community reporting web page where you can view reports.
Sign up to MyPestGuide® to be a part of the surveillance community, help local growers, and protect the environment and our economy.
Get involved...
A knowledgeable community can get on top of pest problems quickly, reducing the costs of eradication and management long-term. Why not join the reporting community to help monitor and keep exotic pests out of Australia?
Your individual reports will help to:
- map the distribution of pests and diseases.
- increase the likelihood that early detection and improve chances of eradication.
- provide evidence to support area freedom from pests and diseases, and
- protect Australia continued access to trade markets.
Learn more about the pests and other organisms reported near you by viewing the shared reports mapped on our online portal.
Each time you report, you will learn:
- about the problems pests may cause.
- how to manage pests sustainably
- how to contribute to maintaining beneficial organisms and biodiversity.
- if what you found is new to science!
The MyPestGuide team shares the same goal as Taxonomy Australia - to document all species in Australia. We ask everyone interested in providing their expertise to join our network of diagnosticians.
The Biosecurity Blitz is an annual event which runs from 16 October to 16 November. It is an opportunity for the community to discover as many interesting or damaging organisms as possible across Western Australia. Everyone’s reporting efforts will help protect Western Australia's agri-food industries and the natural environment from harmful exotic pests and keep our trade markets open for business.
Our team has developed engagement activities and can provide further opportunities for collaboration if the work relates to biosecurity:
- View the biosecurity lessons developed for Years 4-6 in the national curriculum.
- View QuestaGame for Schools if you are interested in organising your own school-to-school competition. This activity uses an app that is not managed by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Services however, your input will contribute to real research and conservation.
