Western Australian Import Requirements Search

To import goods into Western Australia (WA), it must be permitted. Use the search to check whether the commodity you want to import is permitted in WA and has import requirements.

To check whether an organism is allowed into Western Australia, first search the online tool, the Western Australian Organism List (WAOL).

  • Species not listed, or listed as Declared pest - Prohibited, will require an import permit to enter the state, and may need to be kept in accordance with a permit or at a registered quarantine facility.
  • Species listed as Declared pest (s22(2)) may be subject to movement and keeping restrictions within Western Australia. For more information, contact the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development on +61 8 9386 3333.

Other commodities, such as machinery, vehicles, and honey are also potential carriers of weeds, pests and diseases, and may be subject to import requirements.

How to use the search

If the commodity you want to import is an organism (for example, fruit, vegetable, animal, or plant), insert its common or scientific (genus and species) name in the ‘commodity’ field, select the relevant format and area of origin, and click ‘search’.

If the item is not an organism (for example, machinery, vehicle), enter its type in the commodity field, select ‘n/s’ for format, identify the area of origin, and click ‘search’.

  • If your search returns no result, use a generic term, such as plant, seed, fruit, or vegetables. Carefully check the results list to determine whether the options are relevant to your proposed import.
  • If you have used a generic search term, use the species name to check whether the organism is permitted in Western Australia and whether it requires an import or keeping permit. This information is found in  the Western Australian Organism List (WAOL), linked below under Related content.

More detail about what can and cannot be imported to Western Australia is provided on the page, Legislation for importing to Western Australia.
