What is the Declared Pest Rate?
The Declared Pest Rate (DPR) and matched State funding are used to help landholders to manage widespread and established declared pests in specific areas.
Under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 (BAM Act) the State raises a DPR from landholders in specific areas, and matches the funds raised from the rate dollar-for-dollar.
The combined funds are made available to Recognised Biosecurity Groups (RBGs) who provide support to landholders in managing widespread and established declared pests.
A declared pest is an animal or plant species that causes unwanted impacts on people, the economy or environment, and has therefore been declared under the BAM Act.
Widespread and established declared pests such as wild dogs, foxes, rabbits, cotton bush, blackberry and mesquite can have serious impacts on agriculture, the environment, and human health and safety if not managed.
Under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 (BAM Act) landholders are responsible for controlling declared pests on their own land.
To find declared pests for your local government area, search the WA organism list.
No. The DPR is raised in prescribed areas and defined along local government boundaries. The properties that are rated in each of these prescribed areas varies across the State. The DPR is only raised in areas where there is an RBG.
RevenueWA issues assessment notices and collects declared pest rates on behalf of the department. The notices are usually issued by mail in September each year.

Consultations
In accordance with the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management (Declared Pest Account) Regulations 2014 , the Minister for Agriculture and Food carries out annual consultation on the DPR. Consultation takes place prior to the rates being determined and gazetted.
The department releases a summary of the submissions received during consultation and provides a response to any significant issues raised in the submissions.
The annual consultation is a valuable process to enable the department to gauge landholder perceptions of the Declared Pest Rate.
The department appreciates the efforts of those who take the time to lodge submissions.
A summary of the consultation outcomes is made available each year once results have been processed and rates determined.
All published consultation summary reports can be viewed in the DPIRD digital library.
